It’s taxing time for actor Shah Rukh Khan again. The I-T department has dragged the star to the Bombay high court over his foreign earnings as a brand ambassador for the Swiss luxury giant Omega. A commissioner of Income Tax has appealed against a December 2008 order of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) which had allowed the actor’s appeal over a tax deduction dispute with the department.
The case in the high court is about the actor’s income for 2002-03. Shah Rukh had declared an income of almost Rs 20 crore, including Rs 29 lakh as foreign income as Omega brand ambassador. The IT assessment officer said the foreign expenses related to this income have to be calculated too and the actor can’t be eligible for deduction as claimed by him under Section 80RR of Income Tax Act.
